How To Do Kegel Exercises And The Benefits

Kegel exercises are used to strengthen the muscles that control the flow of the urine. Women that have just conceived a baby, who have urinary incontinence or weak pelvic muscles are usually the ones who perform these exercises to strengthen the pelvic walls back to its original condition.

What is urinary incontinence

For those who do not know what urinary incontinence is here’s a little information to process for your health knowledge. According to Webmd this medical condition is when you are unable to control the release of your urine. It is not a disease, it occurs when there is a weakness with the nerves and muscles of the bladder or may be caused by an infection. It can also be set off by physical or mental disabilities, or a problem with the structure of the urinary tract. Depending on how acute or chronic this condition may be, it can be managed and treated depending on the cause.

Kegel exercises are also used for women who have uterine prolapse. This condition is a pelvic organ prolapse that happens when a woman’s pelvic ligaments and muscles become weak and fall out of place. This causes the next of the uterus (cervix) to drop down into the vagina. This sounds so weird, but it is something we need to know about.

Uterine prolapse

When you have uterine prolapse there will be pressure in the lower stomach, vagina and lower back. You will also have a leakage of urine, problems passing urine or stool, frequent urinary tract infections and painful sex. It can be treated by performing Kegel exercises or using pelvic exercisers.

Back to Kegel

During pregnancy and delivery, the pelvic floor can become stretched and weakened, commonly causing urine problems for months or even years after childbirth. There are at home Kegel exercises you can do to tighten your pelvic muscles. You can do these exercises without anyone even knowing.

Repeat these 3 times a day for at least 10-15 minutes per session.
Whether you are sitting down or standing up try to contract the muscles you use to stop urinating. You should feel these muscles squeezing your urethra and anus. If you are feeling your stomach tighten or buttocks you are not doing it right.

Once you have gotten it, squeeze your muscles for about three seconds and then release. Another way to do it is trying Kegel and pelvic exercisers with added work you will tighten yourself up in no time. Doing these will also make sex feel more enjoyable.
