No matter what the claims are about a wrinkle cream, you need to know the structure of it. People are inundated with creams and serums that promise to fill lines, even spots, and to bring back that gorgeous and much smoother skin you once had when you were younger. While certain creams promise to work, there are ingredients that scientifically proven not to show results.

Just for your knowledge and time here are 7 ingredients to look out for to achieve the results you want.

Retinoids: A derivative of vitamin-A. Retinoids are the most important and effective ingredient on the market. According to Dr. Heather Woolery-Lloyd, founder of Specific Beauty says, she always refers people to this ingredient. “It has years and years of clinical research that has been proven to improve fine lines and wrinkles.” Retinoids work by rapidly turning over the cells, which then generates healthier, younger-looking skin--once the dead cells are gone. It comes in different forms (and strengths): Retinol (which is for beginners) can be found in over-the-counter products. The stronger forms require prescription.

Green Tea: A botanical antioxidant. The nutritients in green tea destroys free radicals that damage cells and tissue, which converts the aging process. Still, you can get benefits from drinking green tea; Woolery-Lloyd suggests applying it to your face. “It’s more concentrated and will work better as an antioxidant.”

Vitamin-C: A naturally-occurring antioxidant that helps fights free radicals. Antioxidants blocks free radicals that can cause premature aging. They are effective against other things that cause aging such as environmental sources like the sun or smoking or living in a highly polluted environment. Antioxidants blocks free radicals in our skin that can increase skin damage, photo aging, wrinkles and fine lines. And vitamin-C works to prevent that.

Resveratrol: A power antioxidant derived from grape skin, and found in red wine. It renews cells and increase the collagen and elasticity of the skin, it firms skin’s texture. It is also effective at repairing damage. Another way to get resveratrol is by drinking red wine. A glass a day has been proven to provide many health benefits.

Hyaluronic acid- A sugar that binds a thousands times its weight in water. It is an essential ingredient to fight dryness. “If you’ve lost the moisture level of the skin, this is a great moisturizer for highly wrinkled skin,” says Dr. Cheryl Karcher, consulting dermatologist for Avon Skincare. Hyaluronic acid-based products can be applied topically, Dr. Karcher states that is works better when injected into the layer of skin.

Glycolic Acid: An alpha-hydroxy acid that is derived from food, like fruit. ”They exfoliate the top layer of the skin by breaking the glue that holds the top layer of skin together, which in returns gives you smoother, luminous skin underneath,” says Woolery-Lloyd. They buff the skin like new, and improve pigmentation and photo aging problems.

Broad Coverage Sunscreen: This type of sunscreen protects the skin against the sun’s harmful UVA (aging) and UVB (skin cancer rays. Karcher notes that, “UVA and UVB sunscreens fight the aging process by increasing the skin’s own antioxidants to shield free radicals.”

Looking younger just got a little easier.
